Engineering Manager — Wallet & Payments

The brief

Owns a 9-engineer team building the wallet, payment-rail integrations, and reconciliation pipelines. Reports to the VP Engineering. The team has shipped one regulator-driven re-platforming in the last two years and the new EM is expected to plan the next.

Scope of the role

• · Direct line management of 9 engineers (3 senior, 4 mid, 2 junior).
• · Quarterly planning with product, finance, and risk; monthly architecture review with the VP Engineering.
• · Owns the team's SLOs, on-call rota, and post-incident review process.
• · Hires roughly 3 engineers per year against a ring-fenced backfill + growth budget.

Must-haves

• · Five years in production engineering at scale, two of which line-managing a team of five or more.
• · Hands-on familiarity with one of: payment rail integration, double-entry ledger systems, regulator-graded reconciliation.
• · Production experience with at least one of: Go, Java, Kotlin, TypeScript on Node.
• · Has led a regulator-impacted incident review end-to-end.

Nice-to-haves

• · Direct exposure to SBP / SECP regulatory cycles in Pakistan.
• · EMV or QR-payment-rail experience.
• · Postgres at scale.

Process

1. 45-min initial call with Mahnoor.
2. Two-hour deep-dive technical conversation with the VP Engineering.
3. Half-day on-site: 1:1 with two team leads + one of the engineers + the CFO + the head of risk.
4. Reference call (3 references, two of them direct reports).
5. Offer.
